Harvest Food Drive
» Monday, September 18, 2017

Harvest Food Drive for St. Matthew's House - Sunday October 1st.

As we do each year, we will have a food drive in support of St. Matthew’s House on Harvest Sunday, Oct. 1st. Donations of non-perishable food (please check expiry dates) and personal care items are gratefully accepted or, if it is more convenient, you may make a monetary donation using the envelopes in the pews. Please mark “St. Matthew’s House” on the “donation for” line and on the memo line of your cheque. Cheques should be made payable to St. Luke’s Church.

At this time when we remember and give thanks for the abundance of food with which we are blessed, we hope that you will share these blessings with those around us who are not as fortunate.

Thank you for your generous support.

Downtown Community Lunch
» Tuesday, September 19, 2017

Would you like to visit with others? Make new friends? Enjoy a free lunch? Join a team, have fun, and make a difference?

St. Luke’s hosts this free community lunch in our hall on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays every month from the 3rd Wednesday in September to the first Wednesday in June. We serve a delicious and nutritious meal over conversation in a community atmosphere. Doors open at 11:30 for coffee and tea, and the meal is served from 12 until 1:15. Our partners include Burlington Baptist, Knox Presbyterian, and St. John Catholic churches. We receive food donations from Burlington Food Bank, Food for Life, and Burlington Food Share. Our volunteers and donations come from all four churches and also from the community.

The community lunch was initiated in response to a Needs Assessment carried out by St. Luke’s in 2012, which revealed that there are many seniors living alone in our area of Burlington. There are also a significant number of people of all ages who can’t always afford to buy good food. The lunch is designed to provide an opportunity to meet old and new friends while enjoying a tasty and nutritious meal. While most who attend are seniors, all ages are welcome.

Our volunteers are also mainly seniors. New volunteers of all ages are always welcome and needed. Most of our volunteers join the guests for lunch.

Re-Starting the Sunday Nursery
Several parents would like us to re-start our Sunday nursery to allow parents the option of having their children aged 0-3 to go to the nursery. Please note that children of any age are always welcome to stay in Church too. (If they make noises they're only fulfilling their job description and it reminds us all that this is a living Church.)
However, to provide parents with a choice we'd like to offer a nursery. We'd like to restart it very soon and for it to be principally staffed with a parent in charge (or else people trained in first aid as well as early childhood education.) We expect it will be mostly parents who staff it and we have several who have volunteered already. We'd like to get more volunteers so, if you're willing, please let Heather Faint know by email: heather.benson86gmailcom

Children's Focus in Church at the start of 10:00 am Sunday Service
Each Sunday we are having our 10:00am Church service start with a short children's focus, just after the opening hymn.  Parents, please bring your children to Church with you. The Sunday School teachers will then lead them across to the Parish Hall for Sunday School following the children's focus.

Taizé Night Prayer & Evensong Schedule
» Saturday, January 07, 2017

In the busyness of our work-a-day lives, we all need a place and a space where we can be still and know the presence and the peace of God. In a world that is filled with noise it is good to have a place where quiet is respected and conversation is not required.

Come and Pray With Us in the stillness of a candlelit hour.

Taizé Service Schedule:

- Friday January 13th, 7:30pm

- Friday February 10th, 7:30pm

- Friday March 10th, 7:30pm

- Friday May 12th, 7:30pm

- Friday June 9th, 7:30pm

Evensong is a quintessentially Anglican Service. Our Evensongs are of the traditional style with the chanting of canticles, versicles and responses and the singing of evening hymns.

Evensong Service Schedule:

- Sunday April 30th, 4:00pm

- Sunday September 17th, 4:00pm

- Sunday November 19th, 4:00pm

- Sunday February 18th, 4:00pm
